Longines, the famous luxury watch brand, was founded by Aguste Agassiz in 1832. Aguste was of Swiss origin. Other notable personalities from his family were scientists Alexander and Louis Agassiz. Aguste started off working in a firm that traded watch parts. His interest in the field was so intense that he learnt all about it and eventually started his own business. His collection of watches became extremely popular and then there was no stopping. However, his health began deteriorating in the 1850's and the business was taken over by his nephew Ernest Francillon.
The Longines L2.5220.127.116.11 from the brand’s Saint-Imier Collection is loved for its sophisticated look. It comes with a mop dial studded with 12 skilfully cut diamonds that serve as the hour markers. The watch has luminous minute and hour hands. It has a 30 mm round steel case and a polished stainless steel bezel. The adjustable bracelet of the watch is also made of stainless steel.
The beautiful dial of this Saint-Imier Collection watch is shielded with the strong sapphire crystal glass. This material is scratch resistant and tough to break. It is also anti reflective which means that it shall allow you to easily take a glance of the time even in bright sun light. The watch is water resistant up to a depth of 30 meters. It also provides information about the date. The date window is set at the 3 o’ clock position.
Over the years the brand has developed a special connection with the world of sports. It has sponsored several horse riding, gymnastic and basket ball events. The brand also takes pride in having served as the official time keeper for the prestigious Olympic Games, Common Wealth Game, Swiss Federal Gymnastics Meet, Alpine World Cup Competition, French Open Tennis and various other sports events and competitions.
Be it in sporting competitions to decide the accuracy until a fraction of a second or on the wrists of world leaders, Longines watches have come to define a class by themselves. The company has been located in Saint Imier, a Swiss village since 1832 and has long-standing ties with the same. Being the lone watchmaker that was set up in St.Imier, it remains true to its historical values of tradition, elegance and sport. Therefore, it was only fitting that the company should launch a collection true to its native village.
This collection comes in elegant round-shaped cases. The materials used to craft the cases are mostly 18 carat pink gold or stainless steel. The bracelet is either made of stainless steel or alligator strap. The glass coating of the watch is a scratch-resistant, skillfully made sapphire crystal. An anti-reflection coating is provided on the underside of the glass. This makes sure that it can be used even in the sunniest of weather.
Adding to its all-purpose use, this watch comes with a water resistant capacity of up to 3 bars of pressure. In terms of functions, the watch has a self-winding mechanical movement beating at 28'800 vibrations per hours and providing 40 hours of power reserve.
