Longines, one of the most well-known luxury brand for watches, was founded in the year 1832 by talented watch maker Auguste Agassiz. He however started the business with a different name. The “luxurious yet functional” timepieces of Longines were greatly appreciated in the local market and soon started becoming popular in distant geographies. The legacy was passed to Auguste’s nephew, Ernest Francillion, in 1850 when Agassiz’s health started deteriorating. Today Longines belongs to the famous Swatch group.
