The inspiration behind the Portugieser Chronographs dates back to the historical era of ancient nautical equipments used by seafarers to explore the world. Flaunting a timeless sophistication with a cutting edge technology, the Portugieser models shimmer with the excellent material finish, their absolute beauty making them a coveted collectible among the watch enthusiasts of the world.
The IWC IW371445 Portugieser Chronograph flaunts a high end design by the use of its nautically inspired précised instruments, and exquisite material finish. Strengthening the design of this men’s timepiece, is a silver steel case with brushed edges, slim bezel ring, and lugs. The silver bezel employs a silver crown, and 2 pushers calibrating the dial motion while also carrying out the sub dial adjustments. A silver dial adorns the face of the watch with applied polished rose gold hour markers. The minute track is punched in holes with a rose gold fill on the outer rim of the dial. Rose gold baton hands with a plume blue second’s arm render the dial with distinctive looks.
A black leather alligator strap is attached to the silver lugs enhancing the design of this timepiece. The deployant clasp can be used to wear and remove this time piece anytime.
The IWC IW371445 Portugieser Chronograph uses a sapphire crystal case window that protects the dial from scratches and accidental shatters. Its 30-metre water resistivity makes the time piece ideal for a rainy day, as it can withstand accidental splashes of water. This timepiece features 2 sub dials; a metallic silver 30 minute counter at 12 o’ clock position of the dial, and a small running seconds sub dial at the 6 o’ clock position. With an impressive 44-hour power reserve, the IWC 79350 calibre of this chronograph is powered with automatic movement. Trendy and sporty, this timekeeper also features stopwatch function with minutes and seconds.
The late 1930s was a pioneer calendar year for the IWC Portugieser watch collection. When two Portuguese businessmen ordered wristwatches with the precision of marine chronometers, IWC Schaffhausen decided to rise up to the challenge by creating a then non-existent wristwatch movement with the crown on the right-hand side which would remedy the problem. The Portugieser is a much sought after watch due to its minimalist design and simplistic approach to styling. Most watches consist of an automatic movement while others, in accordance to the pioneer pocket watch models before, require mechanical hand winding.
2015 marks the 75th anniversary of the IWC Schaffhausen Portugieser family, one of the most beloved and prestigious collection of the brand. This year was kick-started with a number of gala affairs in January, the most elaborate of which saw 800 distinguished guests and IWC Schaffhausen at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva. The evening was star-studded with watch enthusiasts and brand ambassadors. Over the past few years, IWC has continually bested its contemporaries by decorating the Portugieser with modernist technology such as the Tourbillon Mystere, the constant force Tourbillon and the 8-day hand wound movement with definitive plans to bring design and efficiency to new heights over the coming years.
English Actress Emily Blunt shares a love for the Portugieser watches that is very much in common with famous Austrian actor, Christopher Waltz. Friends of the brand also include screenwriter and filmmaker Mark Forster, sports legends such as Lewis Hamilton, Nico Roseberg and Luis Figo, all of whom have dedicatedly attended the launches of the new and improved Portugieser watch collection.
