What makes Ethos a better place to buy a watch vs. other e-commerce websites?
- Other e-commerce websites, even though they may be famous, are marketplaces. The sellers on these are NOT authorized retailers. You run the risk of buying a fake or a refurbished watch. Nearly 33% of the watches sold on e-commerce sites are fake. Ethos is an authorized retailer of every watch we sell. We are India's largest luxury watch retailer. We have 46 boutiques across India. You can be sure that when a watch is bought on our website it will be free from all malpractices.
- The warranty is void on most of the watches sold through marketplaces and e-commerce sites. Sellers send a warranty card that is not stamped by an authorized retailer. If something goes wrong, the warranty of the watch will be void.
- Ethos has 4 dedicated service and repair centers across India and a strong aftersales service department.
- You get a free strap adjustment at any Ethos watch boutique across India.
- You get free membership into Club Echo. Club Echo is the loyalty programme of Ethos, membership to which can get you invitations to secret sales, launch events, previews and discounts on polishing, watch check-ups and services.
A classic time piece, this model has a white dial which is in a stainless steel case. Silver toned index markers and hour hands engrave the dial. There is a date display window placed at 4 o’ clock and the inner rim of the dial has been set with minute markers. There is a retrograde dial at 3 o’ clock and 9 o’ clock. The stainless steel fixed bezel is smooth and the strap has been crafted with brown leather. It has been powered by a quartz movement and the dial has been protected by a scratch resistant sapphire crystal.

Coming to the heart of the watch, it houses the Swiss ETA G15.261 quartz movement with three retrograde movements, a small seconds hand at 6 o’clock and a date display at 4 o’clock. While quartz movements may not have the same kind of purchase value as a mechanical one among watch enthusiasts, it is almost impossible to get a Swiss made mechanical retrograde for less than 1 lac rupees and I am not talking about 3 retrograde movements. Typically, mechanical pieces with similar movements are priced upwards of 2-3 lacs and hence out of reach for most of us.
This paragraph can be a little dense to those who are not initiated into horology: As mentioned previously, this watch has three retrograde movements. The small seconds hand at 6 o’clock gives the actual running seconds time while the large seconds hand which rests at 9 o’clock is a half minute "irony retrograde" chronograph which runs anti-clockwise up to the 3 o’clock position when the chronograph is engaged. On reaching that position it "retrogrades" back to the starting position adding half a minute to the retrograde dial at 2 o’clock which is the second retrograde movement. When that dial completes 5 minutes, it retrogrades back, incrementing the 60 minute retrograde dial at 10 o’clock which is the third and final retrograde movement. Sometimes, the watch as it comes from the factory will have the half minute chronograph hand at the 12 o’clock position instead of the 9 o’clock position. Similarly, the other retrograde hands would also be in positions lower than the 0 mark. Before starting the chronograph movement, they need to be adjusted by having the crown pulled to the 2nd and 3rd positions and clicking on the chronograph buttons to bring them to their starting positions. The exact details are given in a manual cum warranty card that comes with the watch and is also available online (Search ETA G15.261 on Google).
Finally, this watch is rated as water resistant up to 50 meters, which means splashes are fine but you can’t submerge it in water or engage in water sport activities. Hence, if you are one of those professional types who attend a lot of meetings and wear a lot of formal dresses, who is looking for a beautiful, elegant, sophisticated, Swiss made dress watch, but are not wealthy enough or hesitant to sell a kidney to afford a Grand Seiko (which is Japanese by the way) or Longines, there are not too many options out there which beat this piece on looks, functionality and price. It is a testament to the value for money this piece offers that similar pieces made by its sister firm Edox cost 4-5 times as much as this one. Of course, it helps that I bought it at 50% off on a sale.
I bought this watch online from Ethos. The prices Ethos offers is unbeatable. The same watch is listed in long island watches, a respectable online dealer based in US for $495 and I got it for 45% of that price! That says a lot about the competitive prices offered by Ethos. The package was delivered from Chandigarh to Chennai in a week by Overnite couriers. There was a brief hiccup as the house was locked the first time and they didn’t call me. I had to find out from their tracking system but couldn’t reach them as it was a weekend by then and they wouldn’t pick up their land line. But they called me the next Monday and delivered it to my home. I had a follow up call from Ethos the next day to confirm the delivery. All in all, a good experience from Ethos once again.
