The Cartier institution was founded in 1847 by jeweler Louis Francoise Cartier, who later handed it to his three sons. Not before long the brand turned its attention to watches. Since its inception, a plethora of collections have been added, many of which are modern day icons. ‘King of jewelers and jeweler of kings’ still reflects grace and grandeur, with a touch of modern elegance.
Introduced in 1917, the Tank collection drew its unique aesthetic from Renault tanks, which were in use in the Western front during World War I.
Since its inception, countless variations have been made to the Tank collections’ classic legacy. The Tank Francaise WE110007 medium model is not only an augmentation of the rich past of the Cartier heritage, but it also adds a modern edge to the already existing exquisite design. With 11 brilliantly cut diamonds marking hours and a black roman numeral at 12 o’ clock, it reflects ethereal elegance with a mellow tone. It consists of a case in steel, with an octagonal crown set with a synthetic cabochon shaped spinal. It features a lacquered silver flinque dial set with sward shaped hands with blued steel and sapphire adding to the aesthetic beauty of the timepiece. A steel case measuring 30.4mm x 25.05mm diameter and a steel bracelet, it is a metallic piece ideally created to adorn the wrists of edgy and modern women all over the world.
The Swiss made timepiece is immaculately cut and designed to last long with features such as water resistance up to 30 m and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. Its dial type is analog with a fixed steel bezel set. With a quartz movement functioning at hour and minutes, it is a chronometrically perfect piece paying a tribute to history.
The First World War succeeded in inspiring a whole line of watches when Louis Cartier, the founder of the iconic Cartier brand fashioned watches inspired by the Renault tanks introduced by the Americans on the Western Front. These intricately designed timepieces born from an unusual inspiration were eventually introduced by the brand as the Tank collection in 1917, before they were launched in the markets in 1919.
The Tank collection has cases available in both rectangle and square shapes similar to the proportions of the tough war-machine. The case is further accentuated with a cabochon crown and sword shaped hour and minute hands set in a classic dial with Roman numerals, exuding a vintage feel. The distinctively patterned bracelet is the highlight of this collection. It consists of rectangular links ingeniously integrated with vertical sidebars, which bring to mind the rugged construction of the tank’s tracks used during war.
Originally introduced as far back as World War I, today this coveted collection is crafted using cutting-edge technology to feature enhanced functions such as calendar and power reserve displays. They also offer a broad range of movements from the simple yet precise Quartz to the technologically complicated and unerringly accurate automatic.
The Tank collection finds its manifestation in 6 ranges: Francaise, Americaine, Anglaise, MC, Solo and Louis Cartier.
