Since its inception in 1874, Cartier has had the reputation of being ‘A jeweller of kings and a king of Jeweller ‘and is associated with royalty. With the advent of the modern wristwatch, the institution has produced a varied range of timepieces, crafted impeccably with the finest material. Drawing inspiration from the Renault Tank in 1917, which Louis Cartier saw in the Western front, he created the Tank collection with lines and proportions similar to the tanks used in World War I. Variations of the same have defined and redefined the original timepiece, majestically adding to the heritage of the legacy.
The Tank collection, still standing as a resplendent face of excellence in the art of watch making, introduced a model which incorporates a sleek, metallic and boldly beautiful design. Updating the collection with an 18K pink gold and stainless steel case, with two tone bracelet, the brand came up with the Cartier Française WE110005.
A captivating design with blue toned hands, a silver dial along with 11 brilliantly cut diamonds as hour markers and a roman numeral at 12 o’ clock, make it a masterpiece that accentuates the beauty of the woman in possession of it. The case shape is rectangular measuring 30.5mm x 20.05 mm. An octagonal crown set with a synthetic cabochon spinal and a lacquered flinque dial add to the excellence of the timepiece.
It stands for durability as the sapphire crystal is scratch resistant and the entire body of the watch is water resistant up to 30 m. It incorporates a quartz movement and functions on day, hour and minute basis. It has everything that a woman would look for in a fine watch, starting from precision in quality to a brilliantly designed exterior; it is a symbol of exuberant finesse in all respects.
The First World War succeeded in inspiring a whole line of watches when Louis Cartier, the founder of the iconic Cartier brand fashioned watches inspired by the Renault tanks introduced by the Americans on the Western Front. These intricately designed timepieces born from an unusual inspiration were eventually introduced by the brand as the Tank collection in 1917, before they were launched in the markets in 1919.
The Tank collection has cases available in both rectangle and square shapes similar to the proportions of the tough war-machine. The case is further accentuated with a cabochon crown and sword shaped hour and minute hands set in a classic dial with Roman numerals, exuding a vintage feel. The distinctively patterned bracelet is the highlight of this collection. It consists of rectangular links ingeniously integrated with vertical sidebars, which bring to mind the rugged construction of the tank’s tracks used during war.
Originally introduced as far back as World War I, today this coveted collection is crafted using cutting-edge technology to feature enhanced functions such as calendar and power reserve displays. They also offer a broad range of movements from the simple yet precise Quartz to the technologically complicated and unerringly accurate automatic.
The Tank collection finds its manifestation in 6 ranges: Francaise, Americaine, Anglaise, MC, Solo and Louis Cartier.
