The Cartier institution has had a rich heritage, being known as the ‘Jeweller of kings and king of jewellers’ during the 19th century, when it catered to the crowned heads. In 1904, the first wristwatch, the Santos Dumont was created after which a series of beautifully created collections followed. One of which was the Tank.
The Tank marked a revolutionary turn in the history of watch making. Drawing inspiration from the tanks used in the World War, Louis Francoise Cartier, the man himself fashioned a timepiece mimicking the lines of the tank. With seamlessly perfect cuts and crisp lines, the tank was an iconic piece that took the market by storm. A plethora of collections have been added to the classic collection, one of which is the Anglaise Tank that was introduced in 2012.
Integrating the initial design aesthetic of the Tank with a modern edge is the Tank Anglaise W5310031. The case is 18k white gold measuring 39.2mm x 29.8mm with a thickness of 9.5mm. A rectangle case shape with a silver dial, the watch reflects modernity amalgamated with culture. It features Roman numeral hour markers, blue-toned hands and minute markers around the outer rim.
This Swiss made luxury watch is protected with a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The strap is made of the finest alligator skin and is attached to an 18K white gold buckle.
Dial type of the piece is automatic and the watch houses an automatic movement. Cartier watches are an epitome of the finest quality pieces with technical precision and brilliantly designed exteriors.
A date display is positioned meticulously at 3 o’ clock. The watch functions include the date, hour, minute and seconds reading. Additionally the watch is also water resistant up to 30m. The piece accentuates the elegance of the woman wearing it.
The First World War succeeded in inspiring a whole line of watches when Louis Cartier, the founder of the iconic Cartier brand fashioned watches inspired by the Renault tanks introduced by the Americans on the Western Front. These intricately designed timepieces born from an unusual inspiration were eventually introduced by the brand as the Tank collection in 1917, before they were launched in the markets in 1919.
The Tank collection has cases available in both rectangle and square shapes similar to the proportions of the tough war-machine. The case is further accentuated with a cabochon crown and sword shaped hour and minute hands set in a classic dial with Roman numerals, exuding a vintage feel. The distinctively patterned bracelet is the highlight of this collection. It consists of rectangular links ingeniously integrated with vertical sidebars, which bring to mind the rugged construction of the tank’s tracks used during war.
Originally introduced as far back as World War I, today this coveted collection is crafted using cutting-edge technology to feature enhanced functions such as calendar and power reserve displays. They also offer a broad range of movements from the simple yet precise Quartz to the technologically complicated and unerringly accurate automatic.
The Tank collection finds its manifestation in 6 ranges: Francaise, Americaine, Anglaise, MC, Solo and Louis Cartier.
