The exceptional heritage of the Cartier institution dates back to the year 1847 when it was founded in Paris, France, by Louis Cartier. Until 1904, it catered to jewellery making only, after which a new dimension was added. Introduction of wristwatches by the Cartier brand marks a revolutionary point in the history of watch making. The company introduced some of the most exquisite collections that stand as icons even today.
The Tank, drawing inspiration from the Renault Tanks that drew Cartier’s attention during the First World War, is a collection that incorporates a brilliantly cut design with seamlessly perfect technical precision. Countless number of variations have been added to the collection. Nonetheless, they still reflect elements of the initial design.
The Cartier Tank Americaine W2609156, designed for women, beautifully intertwines fearlessness and boldness with an ethereal elegance. It incorporates the original Tank design with a modern touch; a more pronounced curve than the original. Rectangular in shape, the 18K pink gold case measures 45.1mm x 26.6mm and its thickness is 8.85mm. An 8 sided crown set with a faceted sapphire and a silvered flinique dial, characterise the masterpiece. A calendar aperture is meticulously added at 6 o’ clock. An alligator skin strap with an 18K pink gold ardillon buckle allows you to put on the timepiece with ease. The dial has sward shaped hands with Roman numeral hour markers, which not only make it an innovative and captivating piece but also an emblem for the modern woman.
The Cartier institution has a reputation of combining technical precision with beautifully elegant designs. An epitome of perfection, the watch houses mechanical movement with automatic winding Cartier caliber 120. Additionally the sapphire crystal embodied in the timepiece is scratch resistant. The watch being water resistant up to 30m render it durable in the long run.
The First World War succeeded in inspiring a whole line of watches when Louis Cartier, the founder of the iconic Cartier brand fashioned watches inspired by the Renault tanks introduced by the Americans on the Western Front. These intricately designed timepieces born from an unusual inspiration were eventually introduced by the brand as the Tank collection in 1917, before they were launched in the markets in 1919.
The Tank collection has cases available in both rectangle and square shapes similar to the proportions of the tough war-machine. The case is further accentuated with a cabochon crown and sword shaped hour and minute hands set in a classic dial with Roman numerals, exuding a vintage feel. The distinctively patterned bracelet is the highlight of this collection. It consists of rectangular links ingeniously integrated with vertical sidebars, which bring to mind the rugged construction of the tank’s tracks used during war.
Originally introduced as far back as World War I, today this coveted collection is crafted using cutting-edge technology to feature enhanced functions such as calendar and power reserve displays. They also offer a broad range of movements from the simple yet precise Quartz to the technologically complicated and unerringly accurate automatic.
The Tank collection finds its manifestation in 6 ranges: Francaise, Americaine, Anglaise, MC, Solo and Louis Cartier.
