About the BVLGARI Octo Collection

Background

Before the advent of Octo, BVLGARI was known for its jewellery and high-jewellery timepieces. In the world of watchmaking, the BVLGARI Octo created a sensation. The first ever Octo was created in collaboration with the Swiss watchmaker, Gerald Genta. Called the BVLGARI Gerald Genta Octo Grande Sonnerie Tourbillon, this timepiece was launched in 2010. In 2012, the brand decided to launch this timepiece as a stand-alone collection. It wasn’t until 2014, that the Octo achieved its legendary status with the Octo Finnisimo Since then, the BVLGARI Octo collection has been awarded 8 world records and continues to be one of the most sort after luxury sports watches in the market.

The Finissimo

Finissimo in Italian roughly translates to ‘Superfine’. These superfine timepieces by BVLGARI exude superbly finished timepieces with sand-blasted cases and various complications. The Octo Finnisimo became the world’s thinnest watch in the very first year it was launched. This marked the beginning of an ultra-thin set of timepieces that made the brand a centre of attraction in the world of Haute Horlogerie. Now, the Octo Finissimo has much more to offer other than being an ultra-thin luxury sports watch. With a small seconds dial fixed between the 7 and 8 o’clock markers, most of the Octo Finissimos hold on to the octagonal silhouette from the first Octo. When talking about complications, the Octo Finissimo offers various complications such as perpetual calendar, tourbillon, and minute repeaters. Octo Finissimo is also one of the first timepieces to incorporate both a chronograph and a GMT inside an ultra-thin timepiece. To showcase the mechanical abilities of the brand, the Octo Finissimo is also offered in a skeleton dial variant.

The Roma

With the advent of Octo Finissimo, BVLGARI decided to bring a more approachable set of timepieces. Called the Octo Roma, this line of timepieces was first launched in 2017. Differentiated by a rounder silhouette as compared to the octagonal of the Octo Finissimo, the timepieces represented a much more affordable option inside the Octo collection. Even though it is supposed to be an entry point into the Octo collection, there are few timepieces that have returned back to gem-setting traditions of the brand such as the Octa Roma Grande Sonnerie watch. The Grande Sonnerie is equipped with 4 Westminster chimes, a minute repeater, Grande and Petite Sonnerie, and baguette-cut emeralds and diamonds on the case and bezel. Apart from the high jewellery, the Octa Roma is also home to a worldtimer variant. Called the Octa Roma WorldTimer watch, the timepiece displays the timezone of cities. Powered by the in-house BVL257 movement, the worldtimer function was integrated into the movement, especially for this timepiece. Octa Roma also features a skeleton dial variant also displaying a tourbillon on its dial. One unique timepiece that one can find inside the Roma is the Octa Roma Papillon Central Tourbillon. The timepiece is equipped with a patented minute indicator and a centrally fitted tourbillon, which is in itself quite rare.

The Specials

Subjecting the connoisseurs to the test of time, BVLGARI decided to equip the Octo collection with certain limited edition timepieces. For starters, the Octo Roma Carillon Tourbillon timepiece is equipped with a platinum case to maximise the chimes of the minute repeater complication. The three hammer carillon is further complemented by a tourbillon at 6 o’clock. This timepiece is just limited to 30 units. Apart from the mechanically inclined special editions, the collection also includes special editions under various collaborations. A few of them are the Octo Finissimo and Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Special Editions. The dial is a reinterpretation of the very first sketch of the Octo by Fabrizio Buonamassa-Stigliani, Director of Bulgari's Watches Design Center. BVLGARI decided to collaborate with a Japanese Architect, Kazuyo Sejima and created the Octo Finissimo Sejima Limited Edition. Featuring a dial that reflects a mirroring and transparent effect, the timepieces are just 2.23 mm thick.
