About the Breitling Superocean Collection

History

Traditionally a producer of aviation instruments, Breitling diversified into the field of divers watches with the Breitling Superocean collection in the 1950s. Over time, Superocean embraced the introduction of several modifications. In 1995, the Colt Superocean was launched to incorporate the high standards set by the Navy SEAL for its military divers. The exquisite level of technical superiority displayed by the Colt was amplified in the Colt Superocean Professional in 1998. Further developed by the Superocean Professional in 2000, Breitling’s success in this realm peaked with the 2010 Superocean collection.

Features

The self-winding mechanical movements of most watches from the SuperOcean collection are chronometer-certified by COSC for immaculate timekeeping. Exceedingly watertight, these watches uniformly provide complete protection from water damage up to varying depths, even going up to an unprecedented and patented 2000m with the discontinued Superocean Chronograph M2000. The case backs of all watches are screwed in with screw-down crowns to ensure smooth functioning of the device even underwater. The watches are made pressure resistant with inbuilt helium valves. Apart from its diving capabilities, the collection features unidirectional ratcheted bezels that are time marked to allow professional divers to keep track of their activities.

Design

With oversized hands and luminescent markers, the Superocean is a robust diver’s tool with a certain design appeal. These curvy, chunky watches are complimented by a series of dial colours that offer high legibility. One such timepiece that was made in collaboration with the American professional surfer is the Superocean Kelly Slater, a timepiece featuring a legible orange dial and a green strap.

Breitling watches are assembled in Switzerland using Swiss components, and were first brought to life by Léon Breitling in 1884. Breitling is well known for their tradition and development of precision-made chronometers, essential to aviators before the arrival of modern electronic instruments. This watch orients from the diving category of Breitling watches. The self-winding mechanical movement is housed in a majestic steel and gold case with a stunning unidirectional ratcheted bezel. The Cambered sapphire crystal, glare proofed on both sides and the screw-locked crown with two gaskets ensure that this watch means business at significant water depths, with a water resistance rating of 200 m. The Superocean Heritage is available in different straps with this one sporting the most luxurious of the three, a plush leather strap with a distinct white contrast stitching. The gilded hands make for a stunning visual with the somber black dial emphasized by sharp dial markers. Boasting chronograph function along with a dial aperture for the calendar function, this is an instrument, not a time piece.
